Living in Tring

A compact market town with a world-class stuffed-animal museum and a station that is not in the town.

Living here

Tring is small enough to walk, proud enough to argue about the high street, and close enough to the A41 to hear it.

The Rothschild imprint is everywhere: museum, parkland, a certain scale of brick. Villages: Aldbury, Wigginton, Marsworth, Long Marston: use Tring as their town.

It is not a suburb of Hemel, and it will tell you so.

Schools

Tring School (CE secondary) is the gravitational force for families. Primaries in town and villages feed it.

Independent options usually mean Berkhamsted or further afield.

Healthcare

GP surgeries in town. Hospital: Hemel UTC or Watford A&E. Stoke Mandeville (Aylesbury) is closer than people from Hemel expect for some services.

Dentists

High-street practices; NHS availability is the usual national lottery. Ask about child places.

GPs

Register in town. Village residents often stay registered in Tring even when they could look to Aylesbury.

Transport

Tring station is at Tring Station: a settlement of that name, a walk or a bus from the town. Fast trains to Euston.

The A41 bypasses the town. Buses to Aylesbury, Berkhamsted and Hemel define life without a car.

Parking

Church Square and high-street car parks. Reservoir car parks are separate and pay-and-display.

Shopping

A proper small high street plus a Tesco. Friday/Saturday market culture still flickers. Use Church Square independents.

Restaurants

Barracuda, the Tufted Duck (ex-Akeman), Tarboush, Storia: enough for a town this size to punch up. See Best In Tring.

Mosques

No dedicated mosque in Tring. Aylesbury, Luton and Hemel are the usual options.

Churches

St Peter and St Paul and other congregations in town; village churches still open for more than Harvest.

Parks

Tring Park, the reservoirs, Memorial Gardens, the canal.

Things to do

Natural History Museum, Pendley Manor, reservoirs, Aldbury, Ashridge’s western approaches.

Local services

Tring library, town council, sports centre. Borough services remain Hemel-based until 2028.
