Dacorum Daily is a local news site, not an advertising network. We measure enough to know whether the paper is being read, and we do not sell a profile of you.
First-party analytics
When a page loads, the browser tells our own server the path, a random visit id kept in session storage for that tab, and — on the first page of that tab only — the referring site if the browser still sends one. Later clicks in the same tab are not counted as a new Google visit. If you used our search box we store the query and whether it matched anything. We classify the device from the user-agent and, on hosted deploys, store the country code supplied by the edge network. We do not store IP addresses. We do not set an analytics cookie. Aggregates are kept for about 30 days.
If your browser sends Do Not Track, we skip the beacon. Studio and the editorial desk are never counted.
Search engines
Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are used to see which queries showed the site before a click, and to submit a sitemap. Those products are run by Google and Microsoft under their own terms. We also ping IndexNow when new stories and listings go live, which tells Bing (not Google) to look at those URLs.
Published stories, new for-sale and to-let listings, new jobs, new diary dates, new directory listings, and a weekly what’s-on note can be posted to the Dacorum Daily Facebook Page so people who never open the homepage still see the paper. We do not post your contact form, newsletter sign-up, or IP address to Facebook. If you follow the Page, Meta’s own data policy applies to that follow.
Forms
Tips, listings, events and newsletter sign-ups are stored so the desk can reply. Do not send passwords or medical records through those forms. Email news@dacorumdaily.co.uk if you want a submission deleted.
