Bovingdon Market closed in 2022. The airfield is a film studio now

This paper had been listing Saturday at Chesham Road as a live diary date. The last market on the former RAF airfield was Bank Holiday Monday 29 August 2022.

Stalls on the old runway at Bovingdon Market, on the former RAF airfield

Bovingdon Market is not Dacorum’s Saturday morning. It has not been, on that airfield, since Bank Holiday Monday 29 August 2022, when the outdoor market last traded on the Chesham Road site.

We had been rolling it forward as a weekly What’s On entry and keeping a live directory card, as if the stalls were still there. They are not. That was a desk error, and it is now off the diary and the directory.

The land is Bovingdon Airfield Studios: sound stages and backlot on the former RAF station. The operator’s own site is the public record of what occupies the field today. HMP The Mount remains the other large neighbour. XC Extreme is still the booked-in outdoor offer on this side of Hemel.

The village high street is what Saturday in Bovingdon actually is now: chemist, takeaways, a functioning parade, and the traffic of a plateau village rather than a regional market. If a successor market ever finds a new site, we will file it from an official notice, not from memory.
