How Hertfordshire Police actually covers Dacorum
Four neighbourhood teams, a public crime map, and a messaging service called Herts Connected. Here is how to read them without the press-office gloss.

Hertfordshire Constabulary splits Dacorum into four neighbourhood policing areas: Berkhamsted and Tring (D01); Hemel Hempstead North Rural, West and Central (D02); Hemel Hempstead East (D03); and Kings Langley with Hemel Hempstead South East (D04).
Those codes appear on Herts Connected, the force’s public messaging platform, and in the police.uk data that Dacorum Daily’s live bots pull every day. They are not the same as borough wards, and they are not the same as the old OWL neighbourhood-watch circles.
Street-level crime on police.uk is published with a lag, snapped to nearby map points, and stripped of anything that could identify a victim. It is useful for spotting patterns: bicycle theft around the stations, shoplifting in the Marlowes, anti-social behaviour in a particular park: and useless as a live incident feed. For that, the force asks residents to use 999, 101 and Herts Connected.
Our Local Updates desk summarises official alerts in our own words and links back to the source. We do not republish victim detail, and we do not treat a neighbourhood Facebook rumour as a police report.
If you want the raw numbers, the crime page on this site is rebuilt from the public API after each monthly release.
Comments are coming. Until then, write to news@dacorumdaily.co.uk.
