£1.4 million Stronger Futures fund to land in Dacorum neighbourhoods

Dacorum Borough Council has committed £1.4 million through its Stronger Futures Programme, a pot aimed at neighbourhoods rather than a single flagship scheme.

The timing is not accidental. Hemel’s eastern and northern neighbourhoods: Grovehill, Adeyfield, Highfield, Woodhall Farm: have lived for years with the sense that investment stops at the Marlowes. A programme that talks about streets, community spaces and local enterprise is an attempt to rebalance that.

Details still matter more than the headline figure. £1.4 million is serious money for play areas and shopfronts; it is not a new leisure centre. Residents should watch which wards receive capital works, which groups receive revenue grants, and whether the money is spent before the 2028 unitary transfer freezes projects in mid-design.

There is already a parallel housing story. In June the council marked 32 new homes at Kingside in Grovehill. Eden Court, on the old Paradise depot site, will add homes plus a community hub for DENS, a foodbank and a cafe. Stronger Futures will be judged against those bricks, not the press release.
